This chest of drawers was traditionally made over 200 years ago using only wooden joints with dowels and hand-forged nails.
Today, the furniture is in an authentic, largely original condition with signs of age-related wear, including several areas of damage to the corners of the drawer fronts and the hollow moulding on both sides at the back under the top panel (see photos). The locks are functional, but were probably replaced in the early 20th century. Stable furniture body.
The runners of the drawers and part of the back panel have been renewed to ensure that the chest of drawers is in good working order and ready for everyday use. Furthermore, the old wax was removed from the surface and carefully sanded completely, revealing the beautiful matt texture of the raw oak wood.

18th Century Italian Louis XVI Chest of Drawers
Located in Atlanta, GA
This exceptional 17th-century Italian commode is a striking example of Baroque craftsmanship, crafted from richly grained walnut that has developed a warm, natural patina over the centuries. The commode features four drawers, each with intricately molded paneling and adorned with ornate brass hardware, reflecting the attention to detail characteristic of the period. The front showcases bold geometric carvings, while the sides feature diamond-shaped paneling, all hallmarks of Italian Baroque design, which emphasized grandeur and architectural detailing. The walnut wood has been meticulously polished to reveal its fine grain, enhancing the depth and richness of its appearance. Built using traditional 17th-century joinery techniques, including dovetail construction, this piece is as durable as it is beautiful. The commode’s bold and ornate design, combined with its functional storage capacity, makes it an impressive focal point in any traditional or antique-inspired setting. Perfect for collectors or those looking to bring a touch of historical elegance to their home, this piece exemplifies the opulence and sophistication of Italian Baroque furniture.
