Louis XV Style Large Commode in Chinese Lacquer from the 19th Century
About the Item
Transition Louis XV-style commode with two drawers sans cross pieces in striking black Chinese lacquer, standing on four cabriole legs. Embellished with vibrant scenes from Imperial China palace life, featuring numerous characters in traditional Chinese attire, it stands in scalloped side rails in a bombé shape which are decorated with cartouches with flowers and parrots. Its high-quality gilded and chiselled bronze ornamentation adorns its pull handles, keyholes, lamp base, clogs, and falls in the rocaille style. The marble top boasts double curved grooves on both the front and sides. An ideal addition to a living room or entryway, this late 19th-century piece hails from a Parisian workshop in the Faubourg Saint Antoine.
