Mid-18th Century Colonial Virginia Walnut Chest of Drawers

About the Item

A charming colonial Southern chest in walnut. The surfaces of the chest are wonderfully worn and patinated. The theatrical feet are also original to the piece and are of uncommon form as is the arrangement of three graduated drawers. Virginia circa . 1765-1775. Gratitude to American decorative arts scholar Sumpter Priddy for his assistance in identifying this wonderful chest.

  • Condition:
    Repaired: The chest has undergone sensitive restorations throughout its history, notably in the corner of one drawer face and the addition of several metal patches covering old mouse holes, evidencing its use in a kitchen or pantry. Overall lovely condition. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor fading. All original blocking with the exception of one, drawer runners reinforced. Replaced or modified brass pulls.
