About the Item

A Very Good Quality Mid 19th Century Mahogany Military Campaign Chest In Two Parts, With Original Brass Bound Decoration And Original Flush Fitted Brass Handles To Five Drawers, Raised On Original Turned Feet. As the name suggests, Military Campaign Chests were originally made for use by senior members of the armed forces and therefore their design was such that they were easy to transport from location to location, without getting damaged, often at short notice. Features which are specific to this purpose are things such as the two part construction for ease of movement, the flush fitting brass handles to avoid them snagging on things and the brass bound decoration to try and avoid the corners of the item getting overly bumped and bruised. This is a great example of its type, still in relatively good condition despite it having obviously lived the life of service you would expect. As mentioned in the description the feet are lare original, which is quite unusual on these types of chests, so a great feature and all of the lovely brasswear appears to be original. As with all items we offer for sale this campaign chest has been attended to in our workshops by our highly trained, skilled, antique furniture restorers, where it received a natural wax polish ensuring that it is fit for immediate placement within the home or office. Circa 1860. Height 39.5in. Width 39in. Depth 17.75in.
