Rococo Revival Antique Painted Commode Chest of Drawers, Early 20th Century

About the Item

French Rococo Revival commode with painted panels circa first half of the 20th century, unmarked Item # 007WFV30K An attractive commode from the first half of the 20th century, the case features a warm brown painted surface that is likely original with gold highlights throughout. Carved elements throughout bear the inspiration of the Rococo period with its C-scrolls and vivid acanthus representations, these framing the drawers with their painted panels of florals in the upper drawer, cherubs in the lowest drawer and a fine landscape painting in the center drawer. All drawers are hand-dovetailed and retain original hardware. The commode rests over short cabriole legs with shell-carved knees and acanthus scrolled toes. It is a gorgeous acquisition for the decorator, it is a very high quality piece of furniture that was built to last the test of time. Measurements: 59 1/8" W x 33 5/8" H x 25 3/8" D Condition Report: Minor scuffs and losses to paint throughout. Overall good condition. POLYCHROMED WROUGHT-IRON AND SADDLE-LEATHER SAVONAROLA CHAIR With cerule form, probably early 20th century Item # 311ESB30P ** Sold individually, but we may have up to 4 of these chairs available ** A very compelling form, this classical "Savonarola" chair is crafted entirely by hand using forged iron that shows every trace of the blacksmith's work throughout the surface. They are in a cerule form with hammered spade feet, the legs joined with a central pivot point at the center of each cyma-curvature, this joint decorated with a wonderful iron rosette on both the front and back. The seat and seat-back are slung with leather that is affixed with rawhide lacing, the seat-back decorated with two beautifully formed finials with ruby-red and part gilt highlights to the surface. These are being sold individually, but we acquired these as a set of four and may still have several available. The images are of only one of the four chairs, but they are all identical in overall condition and form. Measurements: 33 1/2" H x 18 3/8" D x 26" W; 19 1/4" H to seat Condition Report: Distressed wrought-iron with loss to polychroming and part gilding throughout; incredibly strong and stable; leather is modern and in good condition with only minor wear. Side coffered chest of drawers with 4 large drawers under a slightly overhanging profiled top plate.
