Painted Oak Chest of Drawers, Early 19th Century
About the Item
Chest of drawers / commode hand-made in France in the early 1800s using oak and pegged construction. The chest features three overlay drawers with ogee edges and drawers fronts decorated with hand-carved molding. The hardware is not original to the piece but matches the style of the chest well. The feet are molded and hand-carved.
The chest has been hand-painted with albumin-based powder pigments paint and shows beautiful crackling exposing various layers of paint and different colors. Overall the piece has a lot of depth and warmth, despite its light color. The drawers work well and will provide plenty of storage space in whichever room the piece is placed. Whether in a bedroom with picture frames on top, an entryway with a nice vase of flowers and a light fixture or a an office this piece will add decoration and a splash of color, as well as functionality.
