Pair of Italian 19th Century Empire St. Cherrywood Commodes
About the Item
A striking pair of Italian 19th century Empire st. Cherrywood, ebonized Fruitwood and ormolu commodes. Each three drawer chest is raised by elegant square tapered legs below remarkable ebonized fruitwood tapered columns with richly chased ormolu caryatids and impressive claw feet. The drawers are each decorated with finely detailed lion head pulls with the bottom two drawers being sans traverse (without crossbar) showcasing the cabinet maker's high skill set and displaying ormolu crest shaped keyhole escutcheons. The sides and top display a French polished finish showcasing the beautiful cherrywood grain.
