Pair of Italian Turn of the Century Louis XVI St. Commodes
About the Item
An elegant pair of Italian turn of the century Louis XVI st. Kingwood, Tulipwood, and Charmwood commodes. Each three drawer one door chest is raised by fine square tapered legs with a mottled design and lovely foliate inlays. At the center is a door with stunning intricately detailed Rinceaux shaped scrolled designs centering two charming love birds perched on an exceptional masterfully executed floral wreath amidst an arrow and the eternal flame all set on a beautiful quarter veneered Kingwood background. The door opens upward in a unique fashion and pushes in to reveal two drawers. The sides display additional exceptional scrolled foliate designs with a central cornucopia. Above is a single drawer with finely detailed arched foliate inlays and two foliate ormolu pulls flanked by fluted designs. Above are additional stunning floral and scrolled inlays centering a quiver also set on a quarter veneered Kingwood background with a fine mottled border with a lovely laurel band design and pyrograved accents.
