About the Item

We are delighted to offer for salethis very rare original Camphor wood military campaign chest with sliding Secrataire desk and writing slope each lock numbered and stamped Stamford Co Feb 1 76 that has been lightly restored A very rare and desirable piece of military used campaign furniture. There are hundreds of thousands of modern reproductions of these types of furniture and thousands of originals which have little to no proof they are the real deal, this piece is the correct timber for the era which is Camphor wood, each lock is numbered from 1 to 5 and stamped STANDARD PAT’D FED 1 76 STAMFORD CT, that’s for the 1st of February 1876, the back has half of a Victorian Depositary label still attached Most of these campaign chests are simply drawers which were for officers of medium standing, the higher ranking officials had secratcaire sections as this does, there is a small sliding drawer section inside this single drawer, a writing slope which is height adjustable, this truly is a very fine piece of furniture and would have been commissioned for a very important military leader We have lightly restored the chest to include sorting out some white marks on the top, the feet have been repaired, its then had a little polish, we have been careful to leave it original and it still has all the normal patina marks from honest age and fair use Dimensions Height 114.5cm Width 111cm Depth 46.5cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point This item is available for collection from our Wimbledon warehouses Condition Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
