A Striking George I Period Japanned Chest of Drawers, England Circa 1720

About the Item

A highly decorative George I Period japanned chest of drawers, showing an overhanging top over four tiers of short & full width drawers with stylistically correct albeit later hardware, raised overall atop bracket supports. Originally constructed & decorated with gilt chinoiserie motifs on black lacquer overtop a red bole surface, the black lacquer now mostly abraded leaving behind a striking red & black mottled appearance with faint traces of original chinoiserie decoration. This wonderful & highly decorative example of early Georgian case furniture would highly compliment any modern, classical or rustic setting.
