Victorian burl walnut chest of drawers

About the Item

Victorian burr walnut chest of drawers This Victorian burr walnut chest of drawers was made circa 1870. Burr walnut chests of drawers were made in limited numbers in the Victorian period. Usually, a chest of this design was made in mahogany, but a wealthy customer would sometimes require an upgrade to having burr walnut. Obviously, it was an expensive upgrade, but price wasn’t important as much as the overall look and quality it gives. This Victorian burr walnut chest of drawers gives you a fantastic storage option, imagine how much you will be able to store in here. The chest has a double drawer to the top and then a further 4 graduated drawers below, all with the original turned solid walnut knob handles. The wonderful feature of the bottom drawer having extra capacity but disguised to look of a smaller depth the plinth being integral to the drawer. Thus, the proportion of the design of the chest looking as if all the drawers are graduated, and so the chest does not lose its balance. The cabinetmaker has chosen his timber well and the design has been laid so that it matches all the way down the fronts. A very time consuming and only a master of the profession would be able to pull it off. The drawers are lined in fine mahogany. We have restored this Victorian walnut chest with care, hand polished, the restorer with over 30 years’ experience takes great pride in bringing these back to its former glory.
