Antique Swedish Corner Cabinet in Gustavian Style with Carved Stylised Flowers
About the Item
Antique Swedish corner cabinet in gustavian style. The cabinet is in two parts and likely made by master carpenter Jonas Lust (1794-1845) in Forsa, Hälsingland during the early 1800s. Rounded shape with classic gustavian fluted doors. The upper cabinet has stylised flowers made in carved wood decorating the doors. Working lock and key. Well-crafted frame which is healthy and stable.
Original paint which has become worn with time, the pine underneath shines through in places creating a unique patina. The interior was painted sometime during the early 1900s. The interior shelves have some minor marks and small pinholes after staples, it was common to use waxed paper inside the cabinet and they were fastened with small, thin staplers – hence the holes.
The lower cabinet measures 76.5 cm deep with each side facing the walls being 75 cm wide. The lower cabinet further measures 89 cm tall and 106.5 cm straight across. The upper cabinet measures 149 cm tall making the total height 238 cm.
