Antique Hand Carved Oak & Wrought Iron Gothic Church Cabinet / Two Tier Credenza

About the Item

Marvelous and practical Gothic Revival cabinet from the early 1800s. This rare, Dutch workmanship, Gothic Revival cabinet from the early 19th century for several reasons is another one of our recent great finds. First of all, this ecclesiastical antique is made exactly like it would have been in early Medieval times. Only solid oak was used and to make this cabinet strong and stable for centuries to come, the artisan(s) only used the ancient method of wooden pin-hole connections (as shown in many of our images). Besides that you should also be able to see how hand-forged, wrought iron nails (with a big head) were used to tighten certain connections whilst at the same time decorating the sides and the top of this cabinet. The perfectly hand carved panels in the shape of Gothic cathedral windows and folded bible pages too are some of the most stylish and well made we have ever seen. Other beautiful elements of this rare cabinet are the large, hand-forged Gothic door hinges & lock plates and the equally Medieval looking wrought iron sliding locks on both doors. Especially with the trefoil symbols (for the trinity) inside the hart shape elements these handcrafted hinges are among the best we have seen to date. Both doors open and shut perfectly as well and both give access to open compartments that in the beginning may have kept church relics that were used in important ceremonies. All the natural materials that were used in creating this rare two-tier cabinet have grown an amazing patina which truly makes it a joy to own and to look at. They certainly don't make 'em like this anymore. Besides the usual wear consistent with age and use this wonderful antique could not be in better condition and it certainly is ready to be used and enjoyed. We would love for this piece to again find its way to a house of prayer, but we understand that private buyers also love owning a piece like this in their Gothic (inspired) home interiors. This work of beauty can be used for keeping and displaying some of your favourite Gothic relics, but we know they also are used as rare and great looking, Medieval style drinks cabinets. Wear consistent with age and use. Only in the bottom 'rail' of the left and right side of this cabinet, at some point in time, was woodworm. However, it is very clear that it was treated properly and there no longer is any activity whatsoever. Please also read our item description.

Great looking and deeply carved Gothic Revival bracket for displaying a Saint statue. This Gothic console for wall mounting dates from the late 1800s and it has a marvelous combination of floral Gothic elements that make it a joy to own, to use and to look at. All handcrafted more than 100 years ago and always well taken care of, this Gothic Revival wall bracket has the most wonderful shape and a striking patina. This organic design with its natural, flowing lines of the deeply carved Gothic leaves also give it an almost circular look and feel. This rare church relic was once connected to a church column where it would undoubtedly have been the base for a marvelous Saint statue. If you look closely at the image of the backside, you will be able to see that the rounded part has been professionally flattened out so that it now can be used against a (flat) wall. Apart from a few minor imperfections this Gothic antique of approximately one hundred and fifty years old could not be in better condition.
