18th Century French "Garde Manger Avec Tiroir" Food Cupboard in Cherry Wood

About the Item

A rare "Garde Manger Avec Tiroir" from Brittany, France, circa 1760 hand-crafted in beautiful cherry wood was historically used for storing food, much like our American "pie safe". Dating to the time of Louis XV, this 18th century gem would make a wonderful cabinet in a kitchen as a small pantry or in a family room to store games, puzzles, blankets, etc. It would also make a great closet in a small guest room. We can add shelves upon request. Measure: 28 1/2" wide x 23 1/2 deep x 57" high. Note: You should always request a shipping quote. Condition:

Additions or alterations made to the original: Lock was replaced with a period restoration working lock with key. Refinished. Wear consistent with age and use. The door lock has been replaced, The hinges, key plate and pulls on the drawers are original. Made from French cherry, top is removable, mortice and tenon peg construction is typical of 18th century provincial French cabinetry.
