About the Item

Louis XV Venetian dining table in walnut, walnut burr, cherry filetacure and poplar in the internal parts measures 220 x 80 x 100 cm. Typical Venetian table, seen in the late Baroque style of decorativism, which is expressed through this virtuosic carving apparatus that characterizes this very rare example with a bevelled profile and underlying two drawers finished with walnut briarwood folders. The precious taste of the ornamentation culminates in the redundant trophy placed at the crossroads of the crosspieces which, in line with the contemporary proposals of the French court ornatists, shatter in the heat of the interlacing softly furrowed by flowered garlands connecting the powerful historiated legs. The incomparable lightness of the carving that borders the undertop frame, piercing in intricate but always symmetrical vegetable diversions the fleshy volutes of the supports of this wonderful dining table, shining example of imagination and at the same time of the artistic concreteness of the great Venetian workshops of carvers of the mid-eighteenth century. In elegant balance on supple, upside-down S-shaped supports with a knee banded with full-bodied acanthus leaves, lagoon cabinet-making is conceived as an encrypted elegance visible from the accurate molding of the head frames that highlight the animated succession of curves and counter-curves of which the plan and the underlying fascia are made, veneered in walnut with briar wood mirrors expertly dammed by cherry wood threads.
