19th Century Flat Top Desk in Louis XVI Style

About the Item

This Louis XVI-style writing desk from the Napoleon III period exudes exquisite craftsmanship thanks to its use of mahogany and opulent gilded bronze embellishments. Its tabletop is elegantly framed by a gilded bronze moulding featuring heart-shaped motifs. The desk's apron is adorned with slender bronze strips embellished with heart-shaped designs on all four sides, while the central crossbeam has a frieze adorned with arabesques and a quiver. The legs are decorated with subtle gilded bronze garlands and decorative rings on the upper section, and they end with sabots featuring acanthus leaf motifs on the lower part. The gilding and intricate detailing of all the bronze elements attest to its exceptional quality. It is built upon an oak frame and, owing to its dimensions measuring 95cm in width, 57cm in depth and 75cm in height, as well as its craftsmanship, this desk is ideal for use as a secondary desk. This elegant piece of furniture would best suit to compliment a bedroom or a living room. It is the handiwork of Parisian cabinetmakers from the Faubourg Saint Antoine, known for their superior woodworking skills.
