    Antique French Carved Bonnetiere Armoire Cabinet Brittany Breton Ship Spindle. Direct from France, a lovely antique French armoire or “bonnetiere” cabinet, with gorgeous hand carvings throughout. The slender, smaller size makes a “bonnetiere” highly sought after for today’s home, as they can easily be placed in a variety of locations. Of course, the term “bonnetiere” comes from these early 18th and 19th century cabinets that were used for the elaborate ladies’ bonnets and linens. NOTE: The style and design are true to the Celtic roots of the Brittany region of France, which was heavily dependent on fishing and maritime, so the hand carvings are noted for spindled ship’s wheels and symbolic use of men and women in traditional Celtic dress to represent their strong work ethic, piety, and the enjoyment of life. All these Breton carved features are present in this cabinet! The crown features a wide band of open “ships wheel” spindles with carvings to either side.
