Antique Italian Neoclassical 18th Century Slant Front Desk
About the Item
A beautiful 18th century painted northern Italian slant front desk. Wonderful aged patina. It features two large drawers underneath and a slant front top. The slanted front opens to reveal a writing surface and 4 drawers with a central open compartment for storing documents and writing materials. The desk is adorned with intricate painted designs, typical of the neoclassical style, with urns, floral patterns and architectural elements. The pulls on the bottom drawers appear replaced and later. Over time, and with use, the desk's paint has become worn, giving it a charming and weathered appearance that adds to its antique aesthetic.
The lock on the interior of the slant front appears original and antique. There is quite a bit of paint loss and some areas of wood loss, please see the detailed pictures.
A beautiful functional piece of furniture that serves as a desk and also as a dresser or chest.
