English Mid 19th Century Mahogany Partners Desk in Three Parts, Tooled Leather

About the Item

English mid 19th century mahogany pedestal partners desk with drawers and cupboards. This classic partners desk comes in three parts, as most desks made in the earlier part of the 19th century did. The top has three drawers on each long side. Each pedestal has three drawers on one side and a cupboard on the other so the desk can be configured with all drawers on one side and cupboards on the other, or one of each. When this desk was used for two people it would have had a set of cupboards on one side and drawers on the other side. If it was used for one person (often with a client on the opposite side) one side would have all of the drawers (nine in total) and the other side would have two sets of cupboards and three drawers. We have it set up for one user with all drawers on one side. This desk is beautifully constructed using oak for the secondary wood (the drawer liners), all dovetailed construction including the pedestal sides. The drawers have ring pulls and thumbnail moldings. The top has faded green leather that is approximately 25 years old, hand dyed, hand tooled and full hide (not skivers) in excellent condition. This desk has been beautifully cared for with deep patination. The handles are old replacements. Circa 1860
