French 19th Century Empire Style Mahogany and Ormolu Bureau Plat

About the Item

A very handsome French 19th century Empire st. mahogany and ormolu Bureau Plat. The desk is raised on straight tapered legs with ormolu sabots and pierced acanthus leaf top mounts. At the front apron is a central wide drawer with two smaller ones on one side and a single deeper on the other. All with finely chased ormolu keyhole escutcheons and mounts. The back is likewise decorated with faux drawer façades. The sides have inset panels accented with ormolu wreath mounts, and black leather pull outs. Each corner is ornamented with finely chased rosettes amidst pierced acanthus leaves. All below the black gilt tooled leather top fitted within a mahogany border. All original gilt and warm patina throughout.
