French 19th Century Louis XV Style Kingwood and Ormolu Desk, Attributed to Linke

About the Item

An exquisite French 19th century Louis XV St. kingwood and ormolu desk, attributed to Linke. The kidney-shaped desk is raised by the most elegant slender cabriole legs with superb pierced wrap around foliate ormolu sabots. Fine chutes lead up each leg to richly chased pierced corner mounts and also extend up the border of each leg and along the scalloped shaped apron. The apron displays one drawer centered by a sensational foliate ormolu mount set on a most decorative veneered kingwood background and flanked by finely detailed gadroon-shaped mounts in a rich satin and burnished finish. The sides and back display an elegant curved shape and are adorned with a continuation of the beautiful ormolu fillets with exquisite foliate designs. The kidney-shaped top displays the gilt-tooled leather fitted writing surface within an ormolu gallery. All original gilt, and warm patina throughout.
