French 19th Century Louis XV Style Kingwood, Tulipwood, Ormolu and Leather Desk
About the Item
A most exquisite and very high-quality French 19th century Louis XV style kingwood, tulipwood, ormolu, and leather desk. The desk is raised by elegant slender cabriole legs with finely fitted wraparound foliate ormolu sabots and richly chased pierced foliate corner mounts in a rich satin and burnished finish. The scalloped-shaped frieze displays three drawers, each decorated by beautiful finely inlaid designs and centered by detailed foliate ormolu keyhole escutcheons. The sides also display striking inlaid designs while the back displays three faux drawers repeating the front design. Above is the original gold-tooled fitted leather writing surface framed within a kingwood border and scalloped-shaped mottled wraparound the ormolu gallery. All original gilt throughout.
