French Empire Revival Burr Walnut Kidney Desk Bronze Sphinx Mounts and Malachite

We are delighted to offer for sale this very rare French Empire Revival style burr walnut with bronze mounts and Malachite pillars kidney desk This is a rare desk and that’s for sure, I’ve never seen another like it both in finish and style. Firstly, it’s a very highly collectable shape, kidney desks with the sealed backs look amazing from every angle. This one is detailed all over with solid bronze mounts, there are Sphinx heads, sideways facing solider heads, French laurel reefs, dancing ladies, the handles, the detail is absolutely epic. The green pillars are solid Malachite, not something I have ever seen on a desk before. The timer is burr walnut veneer on a French oak frame This desk is not hugely old, I would say its mid to latter part of the 20th century but its based on a style from the early 19th century. If this was a period circa 1800 piece it would easily be a £200,000 desk and maybe even more In terms of the condition there are age related patina marks all over to include various little chips here and there, we have cleaned waxed and polished it from top to bottom If you were ever looking for a show stopping desk then this is it, this is like eye candy Dimensions Height 81cm Width 180cm Depth 83cm Legroom Height 63cm Width 61.5cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point This item is available for collection from our Wimbledon warehouses Condition Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
