About the Item

Stunning birch root escritoire circa 1855. We are pleased to offer this piece for sale.  Profusely using birch root veneers on every surface. Matched birch veneers used which span the whole front.  Shaped top with concealed drawer below.  Fall opens to form the writing surface and a fully fitted interior.  Central tabernacle flanked either side by deed drawers with hidden locks.  A further bank of 4 drawers each side and a further drawer that spans the whole width. Secret drawers under the top surface which are accessible from taking the top drawer out.  One of these drawers is signed and dated 1855. Below the fall are 3 graduating drawers which open on the key.  On the exterior are 2 candy twist columns which run the whole height. Standing on 4 turned feet. Age splits to top surface.  Expected minor restorations.  Missing escutheon to fall. Stunning piece of furniture. Fall height: 29 3/4"
