Regency Mahogany End Support Library Table

About the Item

A Very Good Quality Late Regency Period Mahogany End Support Writing Table, Or Library Table, Having Attractive Old Leather Inset Top With Tooled Decoration, Over Two Shallow Frieze Drawers Stamped With Makers Initials Of JS, Raised On Tablet Type End Supports With Elegant Carved Decoration, Raised On Well Carved Scrolling Feet. This attractive regency library table is a great functional size, allowing it to be used in a huge variety of spaces around the home, including of course for its original purpose as a writing table in the centre of a study, or library. We think it would also look great behind a central sofa. The overall condition is very good, with very little restoration to speak of and it retains a lovely rich colour and patina to the mahogany timbers. The leather top has real character, whilst still being perfectly functional and certainly has significant age to it whilst probably not being original. Of course should one wish to change the top for a brand new leather, in a colour of their choice then this is a relatively inexpensive task to have carried out at a later date. The initials JS are stamped on the drawers, probably an identifying mark for a Gillows craftsman, certainly the overall quality of the piece is in keeping with the output of Gillows, Lancaster. As with all items which we offer for sale this writing table has been inspected by our highly skilled and trained antique furniture restorers to ensure it is absolutely ready for immediate placement within the home before being offered for sale. It has also received a natural wax polish. Circa 1830. Height 29.25in. Width 48in. Depth 26in. Clearance Height Under Drawers 25.75in.
