About the Item

ART DECO MODERNIST MIXED-WOOD DRY BAR CABINET Designed by Michele Merighi for Ronconi Cantù Italy, ca. 1940 unmarked Item # 402JOV08W This very sleek and lively dry bar cabinet from the 1940s was designed by Michele Merighi for production by Ronconi Cantù together with a full dining suite. It features a pleasing grain profile that creates smooth vertical planes on the sides while the front is an arrangement of half-conical formations that project towards the viewer along the length of the doors. These open without any hardware, just a single keyhole, revealing a handsome birdseye maple veneered interior with liquor shelves on the doors and glass shelves on the back. The entire structure is raised on gently cabriole legs that lock together in a brass-lined stretcher, this a distinctive part of the design that is employed in the other pieces Merighi designed for the dining room. The top of the cabinet is finished with a piece of black glass surrounded by a reeded rim. A most compelling form, the well considered dimensions allow it to be placed in any modern interior without overwhelming the space.. Measurements: 52 1/8" H x 17 3/4" D x 39 3/4" W Condition Report: Aged surface with an attractive patina; blemishes throughout including staining/discoloration to the teak in several areas, chipping and losses to the veneers (most notably to the left and right corners of the case), a back corner of the glass top with a tiny chip, sunbleaching and other aesthetic flaws. Glass shelves on the interior are new replacements. No key. Cabinet should be secured to the wall (modern French cleat to the reverse), as it will otherwise be top-heavy and prone to tipping. French Waxed Oak Swinging Bar Serving Cabinet by Guillerme et Chambron
By Guillerme et Chambron
Located in Shippensburg, PA
WAXED OAK AND TILE SWINGING BAR CABINET By Robert Guillerme and Jacques Chambron designed for Votre Maison with original Spanish ceramic tiles unmarked, circa 1970 Item # 401PFP02A A rare, fascinating and incredibly relevant tuckaway bar cabinet designed by Robert Guillerme and Jacques Chambron circa 1970, it is exquisitely crafted from solid European oak that is lightly brushed to raise the grain and retains an early waxy finish. The upright post is lighted with a lamp fixture at the top ready to receive the shade of your choice while wire is set in a channel in the back of the post so that it remains mostly hidden by the wall. It is designed to be screwed into the wall with two bolts, these covered with oak dowels (one missing), but the cabinet can still be removed from the upright by withdrawing two large dowels. The bar cabinet is designed to present as a simple naturalistic facade with horizontal set planks embellished with a simple bevelled reveal from the upper planks to the inner planks of oak. The top of the cabinet is inset to receive three ceramic tiles so that drinks can be prepared and set upon the top. Once the cabinet is swung open, you can prepare drinks easily with two shelves in the upper for glasses and accessories while the tiled surface at the bottom can hold the liquids. It is was produced by the firm Votre Maison ("Your Home") owned by Guillerme and Chambron together with master cabinetmaker Émile Dariosecq. An incredibly fun and compelling form that is easily lived with and that, most importantly, remains in fine original condition. Measurements: 58 3/4" H to highest point of the lamp; 39 1/4" H to highest point of the bar; 11 1/2" D x 29 1/2" W Condition Report: Very minor surface wear, presents beautifully; no lamp shade present; original wiring for European outlets - we can have this rewired upon request; minor white marks/scuffs/blemishes. Large Art Deco Cerused Oak Display Cabinet Bookcase circa 1940
Located in Shippensburg, PA
ART DECO CERUSED AND EBONIZED OAK DISPLAY CABINET WITH FLANKING BLIND BOOKSHELVES Probably German, as the locks are of German origin executed circa 1940 with chromed steel accents throughout Item # 401QGP02S A fabulous Art Deco era display cabinet, the substantial case piece features a glazed central door flanked by two blind-doors on either side. These open to reveal an adjustably shelved interior, the oak bars on the side allowing the 3/8" thick glass shelves to be flexibly changed to suit the books stored within. The central door features a chromed rim around the glass door that cohesively ties in with the chrome-plated keyhole escutcheons and the chrome base molding on the bottom of the cabinet. It was probably made in Germany, as one of the locks bears markings of German manufacture, though the craftsman may have simply had a preference for this locking mechanism and imported it. Note the high-grade of cabinet work throughout - all surfaces have been carefully veneered with a cerused and ebonized oak, the interior of the center display area with a red-stained cerused oak and the interior of each flanking cabinet space lined with mahogany veneers. Importantly, despite the incredibly spacious proportions, the entire cabinet can be disassembled for safe transport. The top is removed with bolts on the inside corners...
