About the Item
Fine Quality 18th Century George III Period Mahogany Linen Press Cupboard
A fine quality 18th-century George III period mahogany linen press cupboard. A stunning example of Georgian craftsmanship that embodies both elegance and functionality.
This beautiful late 18th-century piece is constructed from richly grained mahogany, showcasing magnificent colour and stunning figuring throughout. The linen press features a moulded dental cornice with a plain frieze, sitting above panelled doors adorned with flame mahogany. The spacious upper section is fitted with five oak-lined pull-out trays, perfect for storing linens or garments with ease.
The base is fitted with four drawers, arranged as two small over two long graduated drawers, each retaining its original brass handles and fittings, providing ample storage space. This piece stands gracefully on classic bracket feet, which enhance its refined Georgian character.
Over time, the mahogany has developed a wonderful patina that highlights the depth and warmth of the timber, a hallmark of pieces from this era. Traditionally, linen presses were designed for storing sheets, clothing, and textiles, and examples from the 18th century are highly prized for their superior cabinet work, classic design, and exquisite use of materials
This linen press is not only a testament to exceptional craftsmanship but also a striking centerpiece for any home that values history and quality.
This Georgian mahogany linen press is designed for both beauty and practicality, coming apart in three sections for easy transport and installation:
Cornice 6cm, Top section 101.5cm, Base 80cm.
