About the Item

This wonderful Baroque-style secretary commode features a wavy serpentine chest of drawers surmounted by a slant-top desk. Hand-carved in Southern Germany during the 1800s, the secretary has been painted more recently with an intentionally distressed cream finish. The shapely drawers, each with a pair of concentric circle pulls, are supported by four bun feet. A pair of recessed rectangular panels with rounded corners and beveled molding grace the front of the slant top. The top folds down to reveal a charcoal-hued interior, with two columns of stairstep drawers that flank a one-shelf niche with a shaped false bottom. Two pull-out guides support the writing surface, allowing our painted secretary commode to be used functionally in a bedroom, living room, or library.
