Antique 19th Century Walnut Shenandoah Valley Moravian Plantation / Postal Desk

About the Item

An antique 19th Century American plantation / postal desk, handcrafted by Moravian craftsmen in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, USA. Solid walnut, crown moulding to upper cabinet, framed holder for upper cabinet on desk surface, square edge to the desk surface, wood knob hardware, carved apron, turned legs, and spool feet. Upper cabinet has dual lockable solid doors revealing an interior of various size cubbies (mail slots). Lower desk features the writing surface and five lockable drawers of hand dovetailed construction. Includes two keys. Two piece construction. Made in Virginia, USA, in the 19th Century. Measures: Overall: 38w 22.5d 57.5h, Knee Opening: 15w 21.5h, Writing Surface: 28.5h Good antique condition with normal signs of wear consistent with age and previous use. No repairs observed. Slight play in joints. Doors, drawers and locks function properly. Has two keys. Structurally sound.
