Burò with riser and mirror, Vicenza, early 19th century

About the Item

Rare Vicenza burò with riser and mirror, made in the very early 19th century, immediately after French rule in Italy. The cabinet is constructed of solid cherry wood, with some end-paneled elements to enhance the elegance of the structure, in keeping with a refined taste reminiscent of Central European influence, likely introduced to Vicenza by Austrian or German cabinetmakers close to Vermeijer's style. The lower part features a roller that conceals a surprising interior architecture: opening it reveals a movable shutter-like cartridge box, which conceals five drawers. By removing the two side drawers and unlocking the inner catches, the roller can descend further, revealing a secret compartment with five more small drawers. The writing tabletop, which is removable, acts like a drawer pull and slides inside with precision. The cabinet rests on tall square legs, height at the first drawer 55 cm, typical of Vicenza production, a symbol of solidity and fine craftsmanship. The upper mirror, original with mercury glass, is enhanced by an elegant openwork crowning that visually lightens its structure. The interlocking assembly of the top demonstrates the extraordinary quality of execution of the cabinet, made with pinpoint precision. Measures: Total Height : 217 cm Width: 107 cm Maximum depth: 60/61 cm Depth of the top: 21 cm Cabinet preserved in excellent condition, complete in every part, with coeval hardware and nails.
