About the Item

~Direct from France~ ~Lovely 19th century French “secrétaire à abattant”, so elegant and classic, and having over-the-top hand carved details!~ ~Very slender size makes this a fabulous cabinet for placement anywhere in your home!~ ~True abattant style with a marble top, “fall front” and four storage drawers~ ~The carvings are extraordinary, with Black Forest inspired twig handle and foliate carvings on the upper drawer, and large center door featuring a French basket of fruit and flowers in the center medallion!~ ~Raised, carved beveled molding frames the center door, and full length reeded and carved posts flank the door and the lower bank of drawers~ ~Three large lower drawers each have a large dimensional carved handle with carved foliate scrolls around~ ~Lower triple beveled edge carved stepped out molding~ ~Always a sign of quality, notice each side has recessed panels that are completely hand carved and trimmed with carved molding!~ ~Inside the fall front, carved trim above the open storage and four drawers. Fall front has felt covered writing area.~ ~Quality throughout with the hand carvings and dovetailed drawers~ ~Solid oak, heavy and strong, well built by craftsmen of the period~ ~This is a period piece, an investment and an heirloom, to use, enjoy and pass on to generations to come!~ ~circa 1880~ Measurements 55.5” height x 28” x 16.5”.
