Important Napoleon III Cylinder Secretary
About the Item
Magnificent and very imposing Napoleon III cylinder secretary made of burl walnut and solid walnut.
Mounted on plinths, it has eight drawers in front and a large cylinder opening a very beautiful theater composed of a folding top covered with burgundy leather decorated with friezes and a large central medallion, all gilded with gold, a step with niches and two drawers.
Note the superb handles on the exterior drawers and the flap, superbly carved in solid walnut.
This secretary has also an ingenious locking system based on racks allowing the flap and all eight drawers to be locked with a single key. This secretary can be placed in the middle of the room (baseboard finish and moldings also at the back).
French work around 1850, superb quality, special order to be attributed to a very talented Bordeaux cabinetmaker.
Very good condition, our cabinetmaker has revised everything, cleaned and repolished the french polish, on this project he also collaborated with a sheathing craftsman who made this superb sheepskin leather top tinted and gilded by him.
