Italian Mid-Century Secretary Palisander Wood with Inlays by Paolo Buffa 1940s

About the Item

Exceptional secretary by Paolo Buffa from the late 1940s in Italy. The object is a real gem due to its distinctive size as well as the fineness of its execution. The look is clear and austere and takes us back to the 1940s, which are visibly brought to an end by the bouquet of flowers in the flap. The lower body has 2 drawers decorated with strict brass handles. The slightly rounded top flap with the fine inlays of maple, boxwood, burl wood and bog oak give the object a visual center. The top flap and the drawers are framed by a fine maple vein, followed by a small profile, the remaining parts of the secretary are smooth. The body stands on 2 tall, slender legs that merge into long brass foot caps at the foot end and end on a small, round foot. The entire object is veneered with a continuous pastel palisander veneer in a wonderful linear grain. The interior has 5 drawers, 2 of which are lockable and 3 of which have molded bog oak handles. The drawers are veneered with burl wood. There are also 4 empty compartments, 2 of which are divided by glass surfaces. The whole object is solidly finished with interlocked drawers (oak inside) and equipped with a lot of detailed craftsmanship. The surface has been completely restored with a silk-matt lacquer and has a soft, velvety feel and a dry look - which makes the object modern. With the flap open, the secretary is 75 cm deep.
