  • Georgian 18th Century Diminutive Linen Press Cupboard
    Located in Bedfordshire, GB
An 18th Century Chippendale Period, Georgian Mahogany Linen Press, Of Unusual Relative Diminutive Proportions, Retaining Exceptional Colour And Patina Throughout, With Polished Surface To Top, Over Two Extremely Well Figured Panel Doors Enclosing Five Original Sliding Trays And Four Drawers Retaining Original Brass Handles, Raised On Attractive Original Ogee Bracket Feet. It is quite uncommon to find these smaller, diminutive size linen presses, particularly ones like this which are of a height where the top is deemed worthy of being finished as a polished surface due to the fact it may be seen. Certainly linen presses of this kind of proportion are much rare than the standard full size versions which of course can be found in a whole host of different designs. This linen press is constructed from excellent rich, dense, mahogany timbers which have managed to retain an exceptional colour and patina throughout the many years of it being used and loved. Linen presses became particularly popular throughout the 18th century and beyond, with their original purpose being for the storage of household linen as the name suggests. This example retains its original sliding trays which were specifically designed for easy access to the folded linen. These trays are however removable should one wish, and could be replaced with a brass hanging rail, or fixed shelves. Another nice feature is the retention of both its original brass handles and original ogee feet, more often than not one or both of these features would be later replacements. All things considered this is an exceptional piece of 18th century furniture, which is reasdy for immediate use in any kind of home or office environment. As with all items which we offer this linen press cupboard...
