Secretaire Dit De Dame - Stamp: Romain Magniant - Period: XIXth Century

About the Item

A sumptuous "Lady's" secretary in burr cedar and blackened pearwood. This magnificent piece is the work of a 19th century cabinetmaker and gilder, Mr Romain MAGNIANT, the stamp is present on the flap, under the leather, the mark is made with a stencil "ROMAIN MAGNIANT DOREUR 91 R TRAVERSIERE 9 b" (see photo). Period: Second half 19th Century Circa : 1870 - 1875 Dimensions : Total height with marble : 136,5cm x Width : 65cm x Depth : 34,7cm Dimensions of the marble : Length : 62,2cm x Width : 33cm Resting on four "toupies" feet, this very handsome frame consists of a drawer in the upper part followed by a flap and four drawers in the lower part.  The drawer fronts are all adorned with a fine marquetry of foliage and flowers, while the flap forming the writing desk marvels at the finesse of its execution and the richness of its marquetry. The opening of the flap, covered in black leather and enhanced by a gold leaf-printed braid border with arabesque motifs, reveals an interior wooden theatre with two shelves and two drawers. Our desk features rich ornamentation in chased and gilded bronze in the Neo-Pompeian style, notably on the front, mouldings, falls and lock escutcheons. A moulding enhances the base resting on four swivel feet. Two other moldings carefully underline the upper drawer and enhance the Italian Carrara white marble plaque on top. Restored in our workshops. Varnished finish. Locks and keys in working order.

  • Boulle Work Table - Stamped: L.gradé & Pelcot - Period: XIXth
    Located in CRÉTEIL, FR
In the 19th century, under the reign of Napoleon III (1852/1870) in particular, marquetry was rediscovered. We copy the styles of previous centuries; so we make a lot of Boulle style furniture. The richness and the quality of the materials are the same but the execution benefits from technical progress: the quality of the furniture of the end of the XIX is superior to that of their ancestors. Here is a rare work table in gilded brass marquetry on a blackened and lacquered pear tree background. Its lively scalloped top, surrounded by an ingot mold, is adorned with a cartouche opening onto a rosewood interior with a vanity mirror and a belt drawer. In the lower part, a hopper drawer remains invisible below. Its feet are curved with ornamentation in chiseled and gilded bronze. Period: Second half of the 19th century. Dimensions: H: 72 x W: 63 x D: 43cm. Stamped: L.Gradé & Pelcot, A work table, also called a worker, it is a small light table whose top is surrounded by a high border to prevent falling objects. The work table or worker is a small table that can be recognized by its removable flat or rounded top containing storage. This table with or without crotch shelf sometimes has a sliding book box under the belt. Louis Gradé...

  • Louis XVI Secretaire, Waxed Polished Mahogany Veneer, 18th Century
    Located in CRÉTEIL, FR
A delightful Louis XVI secretary, built in oak and polished mahogany veneer, it is topped with a grey Saint-Anne des Pyrénées marble. It is equipped with a high drawer, offering a beautiful storage space, just below, it reveals a flap, discovering a space of a sobriety characteristic of Louis XVI Secretaries.  It consists of a large niche under which are seven drawers, six of which are of identical capacity, all in mahogany veneer. The flap is covered with original Camel coloured leather. At the bottom, it is equipped with two doors, housing a new storage compartment. These three front doors are equipped with cut brass lock entries.  This numerical inferiority is compensated by the presence of two pearled brass pull handles on the top drawer. The fluted uprights of this piece of furniture end in four tapered legs with gilded alloy shoes for the front legs. The back is a magnificent work of wood veneer entirely of the period. Period : 18th century Dimensions : Height : 130cm x Width : 64cm x Depth : 33cm In the 18th century, the ingenuity and talent of cabinetmakers were used to make secretaries with shapes as diverse as their names and with a great wealth of ornamentation, secretaries with a wide range of colours, and secretaries with a wide range of colours.  of ornamentation, desk secretaries, of which we find in the 1760 General Inventory of Crown Furniture wonderful specimens, such as cylinder secretaries, usually made of solid mahogany, the "bonheur du jour", travelling secretaries...
