This is an English chest, made circa 1820, done in walnut, rosewood and oyster walnut. The top and both the right and left sides have a walnut banding with a string inlay of satinwood followed by rosewood and a string inlay of satinwood with an oval interior done in an oyster cut walnut. The top has a nicely molded edge. The top drawer has rosewood with two ovals that have satinwood inlays with oyster walnut middles. The top drawer drops down to form a butler’s desk. The interior of the desk has a beautiful gold tooled leather writing surface. There are drawers and a cupboard door in mahogany with satinwood inlays. On the right and left interior are three drawers with three cubby holes beneath. Behind the central cupboard door is a small drawer and storage. The panel’s right and left of the door open to reveal a hiding place. The three bottom drawers are graduated in size and have a rosewood banding, satinwood inlays and oyster walnut to there middle.
