Carlo Scarpa for Bernini '795' Library in Metal and Walnut

About the Item

Carlo Scarpa for Bernini, library or wall unit, model '795', walnut, metal, Italy, design 1935, edition made in 1980s Stunning library designed by Carlo Scarpa for Bernini. This wall unit displays different sized shelved with book ends, creating a perfect piece of furniture to store your books in. The frame holding these shelves in place is made in white lacquered metal, and consists of two vertical support beams with adjustable ends. All together this design is an airy, beautiful and practical piece for the modern home interior, just like it was in the design year of 1935. Carlo Scarpa was one of the most prominent modernist Italian architect and designer. Born in 1906 in Venice, he attended the Academy of Fine Arts, where he focused on architectural studies. After his graduation, he collaborated with architect Francesco Rinaldo. However, he also started to begin teaching architectural drawing at the Academy, a position he held until 1929. It was also during this period that his professional life as an architect and designer took off and he became known for his sensitivity to materiality and detailing. In 1927, he started to collaborate with master glass workers in Murano and he became creative director at Venini Glass works, where he worked from 1934 to 1947. After the Second World War, Scarpa began to gain recognition internationally and received more commissions to create great masterpieces. Overall, his work became influenced by architects such as Frank Lloyd Wright but also took inspiration from Japan. Unfortunately, he died after falling from a flight of concrete stairs in 1978. However, Scarpa’s influence remains today through his great designs. Kindly note that this piece is in good, used condition.

Gaetano Pesce Luigi (o mi amate voi?) 902 Shelf in Lacquered Wood by Bernini 80s
By Bernini, Gaetano Pesce
Located in Montecatini Terme, IT
The Luigi 902 (O mi amate voi?) shelf, with a lacquered wood frame and a metal base, was designed by Gaetano Pesce and produced by Bernini in 1981. The Luigi 902 is a free-standing shelf with a double frame in wood and metal and two tilting shelves that can be blocked in a horizontal position through a screws system placed directly on the frame. When the shelves are down the bookcase functions like a screen or a divider The base of the wooden structure has a metal reinforcement to ensure balance and stability. Gaetano Pesce is a prominent contemporary Italian designer and architect known for his bold experimentation with materials and color. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with some of Italy's leading design companies, including Artemide, Vitra, Cassina, and B&B Italia. Born in 1939 in La Spezia, near Genoa, Pesce enrolled at the University of Venice in 1959 to study architecture and graduated in 1965. During the final years of his studies, he also participated in courses at the Venice College of Industrial Design, where he was influenced by distinguished faculty members like Ernesto Nathan Rogers and Mario Bellini. Encouraged by their teachings to embrace innovation in modern design, Pesce became involved with an avant-garde architectural collective called “Gruppo N,” which drew inspiration from the streamlined aesthetics of the Bauhaus. These diverse inspirations equipped Pesce to embrace contemporary materials and explore the forms they enabled. His designs range from small decorative objects to large architectural spaces and reflect deep contemplation of the modern era. Notable works include his iconic La Mamma chair...
