Circa 1810 Regency period 3-tier What-not Stand with Reading Shelf, English. A very good example of the etagere or what-not form with adjustable, rising top tier for reading with rail & the middle & lower tiers with drawers for storage. Rosewood with brass inlays. Mahogany drawers linings typical of the finest furniture of the era. Note the fine short legs with carved, lobed motif above original brass cups & casters. Refined ball & ring turned uprights. Provenance: Dr. John Fryer Collection, London & Chapel Hill, from J. Collins & Son, John & Pamela Biggs, CINOA, BADA & LAPADA, Sept. 18, 1995. 19.5" w., 15.25" d., 48.25" h.
