About the Item

An exquisite and finely detailed Louis XVI period mahogany étagère, crafted in France in the late 18th century, circa 1780s. This refined piece features four graduated tiers, the topmost of which is set with its original veined green marble slab and encased in a delicate pierced brass gallery. The three lower shelves are finished in bookmatched mahogany, each framed by gilt bronze galleries in a classic trellis pattern. Elegant turned columns with fluted gilt accents connect each tier, while the tapered legs terminate in original brass sabots. The proportions and symmetry reflect the neoclassical ideals of the Louis XVI style—restraint, balance, and rich materiality without excess. This exceptional example was acquired from a private French family collection, where it had been carefully preserved for generations. It remains in outstanding antique condition, retaining its original materials and refined decorative details.
