Please look closely at all of the photos. This CSS system is larger than it appears. Due to the architecture of our space, were unable to photograph it fully assembled in our studio. It's a very well appointed 5 upright/ 4 bay system.
George Nelson's wildly innovative designs for modular storage such as the Omni and the CSS grew out of his "Storage Wall" designed for Herman Miller in the late 1940s. With the storage wall he tried to integrate furniture design into the architecture of the many new homes being built in the post-war years. He viewed the empty space between walls as wasteful and tried to create a system of case goods which could be built into a home in lieu of an ordinary wall partition.
Years later, in recognition that many people moved too frequently for built-in furniture to be practical, he created a system which could be assembled, disassembled, or reconfigured as needs dictate.
