About the Item

Midcentury floor-to-ceiling shelving unit by Stildomus, Italy. Labelled. The shelving unit is made up of separate components - uprights, cupboards and shelves, which can be configured to suit your project - whether as a single run, or as two separate sections. The cabinets are finished on the back, and all components sit centrally on the uprights; this set stands clear of the wall, and could be used as a room divider, subject to suitable installation. The shelves and cabinets are finished in rosewood, with black metal discs at floor and ceiling. The hangers are aluminium, and match the track which runs through each of the uprights. The door pulls are unpolished bronze. Most shelves are veneered to all sides; some are not veneered underneath, and those are used at the lowest point, where the underside is not seen. The components are: - Five adjustable floor-to-ceiling uprights (one more than shown) - Two fall-front cabinets - Twelve shelves - Pairs of aluminium hangers The set is in original vintage condition with an aged character, and in overview presents nicely. However it's worth noting there are lots of age-appropriate signs of wear inside and out, such as scratches, small knocks, small dents, traces of old paint/tape and minor losses. There is an area of scratches on top of one of the cabinets, which is shown in image 11. We have categorised the set as in "fair" condition to reflect this age and wear. You may wish to refinish, or the set can be used as it is. If you would like more details or additional images please just drop us a note. Approximate dimensions as shown: H 303cm x W 263cm x D 35cm - Height is adjustable - Widest point is the outer edge of the floor or ceiling discs - Width of each shelf/cabinet is 80cm - Depth of cabinets is 35cm - Depth of shelves 25cm Please be aware this set is designed to be positioned between the floor and the ceiling - it does not attach to the wall - and will require suitable installation to ensure strength and stability. The uprights end with spikes at the ceiling end.

A simple architectural piece comprising twin ceiling lights on a single back plate, designed by Alvar Aalto and stamped by the Finnish manufacturer Idman. Overall the fixture is in fair vintage condition with lots of signs of wear from age and use - scratches, dents, dust and fading - all left as found. See images for examples of details and overview, or contact us if you would like more information. Wiring: The original wiring has been partially removed, and will need to be replaced prior to install. The original bulb-holders took E27 screw-fitting bulbs; as with all vintage pieces we recommend the use of low heat bulbs to protect the fixture for the future. There are two holes on the plate for installation (fixings not included). The diffusers simply rest in place, and can be removed for shipping. This design is believed to have been created for the Enso-Gutzeit headquarters in Helsinki, which was designed by Aalto and completed in 1962.
