1970s Frigerio Italian Burl Walnut Sideboard with Brass Sculptural Relief Design

Mobile scultura, Sculpture Art Furniture as defined by Italian musician, sculptor and cabinet maker Luciano Frigerio, contemporary of Arnaldo Pomodoro, circa 1970. This Work of Art cabinet / credenza is in solid walnut, the surround entirely decorated with burl veneer, the top protected by a clear glass surface. This one-of-a-kind piece is enriched by an exceptional front made precious by a geometric art sculpture design composed of square and rectangular brass panels of varied sizes and different brushed textures, placed in relief at different levels inspired by piano keys. Interior with four drawers in white lacquer on one side and shelved storage space on the other. Luciano Frigerio, Italian Designer, Artist and Musician, (1928-1999) was born in Desio where his father Giovanni established a small workshop of high quality cabinet making in 1889. He obtained his Accounting diploma from Pio XI College while cultivating and combining his two great passions of designing furniture and composing music. In 1977, he was dubbed "Maestro Compositore” (Master Composer) and obtained copyrights for his music which was broadcast on Italian RAI channels. However socioeconomic reality of Brianza, in those years, offered great entrepreneurial opportunities in furniture. His frequent visits to prestigious studios like Canturine, where he often met masters like Gio' Ponti, Franco Albini, Carlo de Carli and Tapio Wirkkala, lead to the transformation of his small family business into a company oriented to the International market. Luciano believed that even an architect could design a unique and highly crafted piece of furniture realized by a cabinet maker, unlike that of the Industrial scale. His works have been featured at prestigious shows and displayed in permanent exhibitions all-over Italy. He died in Sanremo in 1999.
