About the Item

Important Regency marquetry inlaid rosewood pedestal sideboard with cutlery urns attributed to Mayhew and Ince. Decorated throughout with fine quality marquetry of pale woods inset into a contrasting rosewood ground showing floral arrangements, vases and garlands. The sideboard comprises of a pedestal cupboard at each end topped by a resplendent cutlery urn, the right with a single shelf and the left with sliding tray. The bow front center section with a conforming frieze two drawers and backsplash. The sideboard stands on eight feet, four scroll front feet and four carved bun feet in the back. These urns feature cup and egg finials above carved bands over urn shaped body upon a round foot with square base with green felt to verso. The urns are bisected to reveal forty-eight slats for cutlery. Size with urns: 70 in. H x 86 in. W x 25.5 in. D Urn size: 26 in. height x 11 in. diameter.

Italian Neoclassical style freestanding slant front desk, in the manner of Giuseppe Maggiolini, late 19th c. Exquisite marquetry veneer in rosewood, satinwood and other decorative woods. The rectangular top with inlaid marquetry foliate sits above a sloping fall front centered by a foliate cartouche and corner cartouches, the kneehole. Open to reveal a nicely fitted interior with an arrangement of open compartments flanked by two short drawers and an inlaid hinged writing surface. Below this there are two large graduated drawers. Side panels inlaid with conforming scrollwork all rising on four elegant squared tapering legs finished with the original brass castor cups. The shape and the inlaid designs are similar to those on pieces of furniture produced by Giuseppe Maggiolini (1738-1814), the foremost cabinet-maker in late 18th-century Milan.
