This is a truly stunning English Edwardian mahogany inlaid serpentine fronted sideboard by Maple and Co Ltd, circa 1880 in date. This splendid crossbanded cabinet is made of the finest quality flame mahogany with ebony and boxwood stringing and the cenrtal drawer bears the stamp of the world renowned cabinet maker and retailer Maple & Co. It features a remarkable serpentine body the frieze with a central plush lined cutlery drawer above a pair of oval panelled doors which open to reveal a spacious cupboard with a central shelf. It is raised on elegant square tapering legs that terminate in spade feet. It comes with the original working lock and key. This stunning piece is in excellent condition and the quality and attention to detail throughout are second to none. Add a touch of unparalleled style to your home. THE BOTANICAL NAME FOR THE MAHOGANY THIS ITEM IS MADE OF IS SWIETENIA MACROPHYLLA AND THIS TYPE OF MAHOGANY IS NOT SUBJECT TO CITES REGULATION. Dimensions in cm: Height 99 x Width 125 x Depth 46 Dimensions in inches: height 3 foot, 3 inches x width 4 feet, 1 inch x depth 1 foot, 6 inches Maple & Co the renowned furniture retailer of London, Paris and Buenos Aires, were famous for top quality furniture. They were by Royal Appointment and became one of the leading furniture manufacturers of the Victorian and Edwardian eras. They used only the finest quality timber which was imported directly from all over the world. Maple and Company were founded in 1841 in Tottenham Court Road, London and had premises there until 1997. By the 1880s they were the largest and most successful furniture makers in the world, their huge emporium having become a tourist attraction in its own right. In addition to their middle class clientele, they furnished Embassies, hotels, beautiful homes and palaces all over the globe, including Tsar Nicholas's Winter Palace, the Hoffburg Imperial Palace in Vienna, and many of Britain's country houses. Flame Mahogany Thomas Sheraton - 18th century furniture designer, once characterized mahogany as "best suited to furniture where strength is demanded as well as a wood that works up easily, has a beautiful figure and polishes so well that it is an ornament to any room in which it may be placed." Matching his words to his work, Sheraton designed much mahogany furniture. The qualities that impressed Sheraton are particularly evident in a distinctive pattern of wood called "flame mahogany." The flame figure in the wood is revealed by slicing through the face of the branch at the point where it joins another element of the tree.

This is a superb antique English Regency flame mahogany shaped serpentine bowfront sideboard, Circa 1820 in date. It is crossbanded, bordered with ebony lines and fitted with a central frieze drawer above a recessed arched apron drawer. It is flanked by two short drawers to one side and a cellarette drawer to the other. It has superb decorative brass foliate anthemion ring handles and is raised on elegant ring turned tapered legs.
