About the Item

"Introducing the 'Fleur-de-Lis' Art Deco Sideboard by renowned designer Paul Mathieu for Stephanie Odegard. This Art Deco Sideboard is a testament to Mathieu's creative vision, featuring his unique interpretation of the fleur-de-lis motif intricately carved all over the sideboard. With its remarkable design, this large Art Deco Sideboard is a true statement piece. Every detail of the 'Fleur-de-Lis' Art Deco Sideboard showcases the exceptional craftsmanship involved. Each exterior face is meticulously sculpted by hand from a solid piece of wood and then adorned with metal sheeting. Choose from a range of metal cladding options, including brass, white bronze, antiqued bronze, silver, and copper. Please note that silver and copper may naturally tarnish over time, but regular use of non-abrasive household metal polishes can help restore the original finish. Measuring 84"" x 18"" x 33"" H, this Art Deco Sideboard combines the elegance of white bronze, the richness of teak, and the expertise of hand-carved details. To mitigate the effects of moisture, temperature changes, and the natural movement of wood, we utilize well-seasoned, reclaimed teak and high-quality marine-grade MDF (wherever technically possible). While we strive to delay and minimize any changes, it's important to note that perfect stability of the metal cannot be guaranteed due to these factors. Please be aware that our smooth finish metal-clad pieces may exhibit some unavoidable tool marks, which serve as evidence of the meticulous handcrafted process. While the smooth finish may not resemble a machine-made surface, our master artisans do their utmost to ensure a clean, stable, and visually pleasing outcome. For those who prefer a more pristine appearance or want added resistance against potential bubbling or wrinkling caused by natural forces, our hammered finishes provide a safer option. To ensure your utmost satisfaction, we offer the opportunity to receive samples before confirming your order. This allows you to judge and experience the finish firsthand, ensuring it aligns with your expectations. Elevate your space with the 'Fleur-de-Lis' Art Deco Sideboard—a remarkable fusion of artistry, functionality, and timeless design, brought to life by the masterful craftsmanship of Paul Mathieu for Stephanie Odegard."

Art Deco Sideboard Attributed to Eliel Saarinen
By Eliel Saarinen
Located in Atlanta, GA
Rare sideboard attributed to Eliel Saarinen (father of Eero Saarinen) designed before his immigration to the United States. In a style that we now refer to as "Art Deco," this style was considered the "National Romantic Style" in Finland essentially a twist on what became known worldwide as Art Deco with its strong vertical lines and medieval references. The workmanship of this cabinet and its materials is magnificent. Note the carefully matched panels of golden masurbjork (birch root), the intricate carvings of medieval knights (very similar to those guarding Saarinen's Helsinki Railway Station built in 1906) and the high contrast of golden and dark birch wood seen again in Saarinen's furniture designed in the United States in the late 1920s. While Saarinen's son Eero went on to become the more famous of the two, it was Eliel who could be considered the grandfather of Nordic Art Deco...
