Belgian Brutalist Sideboard in Dark Stained Mahogany

About the Item

Sideboard or credenza, stained mahogany, Belgium, 1970s. This cabinet features a clear rhythm and flow established by means of a well-thought-out lay out that is utterly well-balanced. The carved circles with square finishes immediately catch the eye and are the signature for this item; a design that established during the seventies when Brutalism was at his highest level specifically in Belgium. This movement is an architectural style started from the mid-20th century, aiming for raw, geometric and compromise-less buildings. Characterized by blatant concrete-skeletons with geometric patterns and Puritan materials. In decorative arts brutalism is highly represented in furniture design. The design convinces visually through its stabile construction accomplished by the remarkable straight and circular lines. Thanks to its rectangular shape, the sideboard provides plenty of storage space which allows the user to store its belongings. Overall, the style is simple and understated and strongly reminds of the designs of De Coene. Please note that the sideboard is in moderate condition with visible signs of wear and use, such as discoloration, scratches, and veneer damage. Restoration is possible before shipping by our experienced craftsman and -women in our own in-house restoration atelier. With high attention for the original, they make sure every piece retains its value and is ready for the many years to come. We kindly ask you to contact our design experts for further information about the endless possibilities our restoration and upholstery atelier has to offer. Of course, a locally organized restoration is possible as well. The mahogany type of this piece does not require an export license.
