About the Item

With its commanding geometry and unvarnished solemnity, this Spanish elm buffet offers a sculptural presence anchored in tradition. Each façade—composed of raised square panels—reads like a rhythmic field of light and shadow, brought to life by the wood’s pale luster and naturally varied grain. The quietly expressive surface draws one in, revealing the artisanal hand behind its restrained precision. Attributed to a provincial Spanish workshop in the Castilian tradition, the piece channels the spirit of Iberian rural cabinetry—robust, elemental, and direct in construction. The hand-forged iron latches and strap hinges serve as both function and ornament, evoking the fortified elegance of 18th- and 19th-century vernacular architecture. Executed in solid elm, the buffet comprises three upper drawers and three lower compartments, each with a rounded corner shelf interior—a detail of unexpected refinement within the otherwise rectilinear form. Dovetailed joinery and hand-carved panels reflect the integrity of mid-century regional craftsmanship. The wood has been lightly stripped, preserving its raw, tactile character without erasing its history. Wear consistent with age and use. Meticulously preserved by Jada to maintain its structural integrity while honoring its original patina. This vintage Spanish sideboard stands as a study in proportion and presence—equally at home in rustic interiors or juxtaposed against minimalist architecture. Its gravitas lies not in ornament, but in the truth of its materials and the clarity of its form. Available for private acquisition. Inquiries from discerning collectors are welcome.
