Buffet with Sculpted Wave Panels and Marble Top in Oak, France
About the Item
Buffet with Sculpted Wave Panels and Marble Top in Oak, France, 1940s
A composition of subtle movement and mineral stillness, this French buffet balances the tactile warmth of carved oak with the cool permanence of veined marble.
Three front panels undulate in gentle waves, catching light with a quiet rhythm, while the central door remains flat and restrained—an axis of stillness flanked by motion. The black marble top, rich with white veining, sits like a geological crown atop this lyrical yet grounded form.
Attributed to a provincial workshop working in the spirit of postwar Reconstruction, the piece embodies a dialogue between traditional joinery and modernist restraint. Its gently tapered legs and extended perimeter apron lift the structure with a sense of ease, almost levitation, in contrast to the weight of its stone top.
The oak has been left raw, allowing the full depth of its grain to surface—rippled, pale, and softly burnished by time. The sculpted panels are hewn with confidence, suggesting both artisan hand and rhythmic vision.
Wear consistent with age and use. Meticulously preserved by Jada to maintain its structural integrity while honoring its original patina.
This buffet asserts itself quietly within a space—a sculptural mass animated by rhythm, material contrast, and the elegant equilibrium of horizontal proportions.
Available for private acquisition. Inquiries from discerning collectors are welcome.
