About the Item

English Charles II Oak exceptionally long and narrow low Dresser / Sideboard, dating from around 1670. The two-board rectangular top with a molded edge, over a frieze containing four drawers with bold architecturally molded fronts adorned with brass pulls and escutcheons and interspersed with half-spindles and fret work decorations. All four locks are present and appear to be original. Never the less, the most unusual and rare feature can be seen in the turned legs. On closer look one discovers the subtle difference in the barley-turned front legs, where the turnings on the outside corner legs are slightly more compressed than the inner pair. The two back legs have a different design for the turning all together. The top and bottom parts of all six legs then are identical again. Such an interesting, original idea! (Art by Cynthia Karalla)
