French Walnut Shop Counter or Kitchen Island

About the Item

A monumental walnut counter from a bank in the South West of France. This astonishing item has a configuration of four large and deep drawers that flank either side of a pair of wide cupboards. Each of the four drawers have the original brass handles to each and the cupboards are complemented by the original locks and key. The bank teller would have been positioned on this side of the counter with the customer to the opposite side. The latter side is decorated with beautifully carved geometrical moldings to the paneled reverse. The thick expansive top has beautiful colour and grain accompanied with the original cashier money slots to the centre. The counter is raised on eight decorative protruding block legs. The whole cabinet is made of walnut and no expense was spared in the creation of this beautiful and unique cabinet. This impressive shop counter would make the perfect addition to any country house kitchen with both decorative and functional aspects. Most importantly the cabinet is in the original state of preservation at just the right height for kitchen design. Please note the castors are for easily maneuverability only and do not form part of the cabinet. France, circa 1850. H: 89 CM H: 35.1 INCHES W: 276 CM W: 107.6 INCHES D: 94 CM D: 37.1 INCHES
